COMMITTEE NEWS:
BIG GAME COMMITTEE: Bill says cougar season is now closed in Kittitas County.
CHUKAR RUN BANQUET COMMITTEE: Our Chukar Run Banquet committee is working hard, and we have some great new ideas in the works! Many thanks to the committee members. Please call me, Deb Essman, 509-899-1046, if you want to help!
FISH: Amy McClelland is excited to be our new Fish Committee Chair! She has met with Red’s Fly Shop’s Jason Harwood and local fly fisherman Michael Milligan to discuss partnering with us. Also, the club is sponsoring Kittitas Environmental Education’s fishing derby that is happening Saturday March 28th at Helen McCabe State Park on Canyon Road. More information about the derby is on our Facebook page and website www.kittitasfieldandstream.org
HUNTER EDUCATION: Our Hunter Ed team taught their usual January, February, and March classes. All three were full (we limit class size to 25 and usually have a waiting list!). Call Bill Essman if you have questions 509-899-4433 about our classes.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: Don’t forget to renew your membership for 2026. You can PAY ONLINE at our website www.kittitasfieldandstream.org ( go to the “MEMBERSHIP” button). You can also mail a check to KCFS, PO Box 522, Ellensburg, WA 98926. Or pay in person at one of our meetings! It’s still only $25 to belong and support the oldest sportsmen’s organization in Washington State, 107 years old!
ROADS: Bill reports great news from Washington State Parks! The back-country road off Recreation Drive that goes through Ginkgo State Park and accesses the WDFW Whiskey Dick Wildlife Area (and beyond) has been re-opened. There is a new online check-in system at the kiosk, just scan the QR code and register– it’s quick and easy. We appreciate that State Parks recognized how important this connectivity is!
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Our 2026 Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior who is planning on majoring in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Enforcement or other Environmental discipline as outlined in our application. The applications have been sent to all the High Schools in Kittitas County and must be submitted to us no later than April 15th, 2026. Home School groups have also been contacted.
WEB PAGE: Tammy and Kalan have been busy upgrading and improving our website. Please visit www.kittitasfieldandstream.org . They’ve added so much great information and important club history, (and of course we’re always open to suggestions).
