Committee News
On October 1st at 11:30 AM there will be a virtual meeting regarding the WDFW “State Wildlife Action Plan” (SWAP). More details to come with instructions on how to join the meeting and give input.
DURR ROAD CLEANUP: Thanks to all the volunteers that came and did an awesome job. Club members attending were Leta Davis, Jim Huckabay, John Fischer, Rose and Bob Helmer, Tom Chini, John Entwistle, Steve Zabransky, Deb & Bill Essman.
No word yet on the amount of trash we removed from the range area but we were pleased that it appeared to be half of what we normally collect. Hopefully this means people are beginning to respect our public lands. Thanks to Brandon at Midstate Co-Op for donating 2 cases of bottled water; Kenny Pillow for donating a Porta-Potty; Kittitas County Solid Waste for giving us big garbage bags; and Kittitas County Road Department for grading the Durr Road for us! WDFW Wenas Wildlife Area assistant manager Josh Frame was a huge help also.
LAND/HABITAT/ROADS: There is no update on the status of the road at Ginkgo State Park.
WDFW L.T. Murray Wildlife Area Manager Shaun Morrison advised that the Pumphouse and Cayuse Roads in the Whiskey Dick WLA will be temporarily closed from now until July 1st to make much needed road repairs. All other areas open May 1st.
WA STATE YOUTH CONSERVATION CAMP: The club is offering to sponsor a boy and a girl (ages 12-16) to attend the Orcas Island Camp, which has been around since 1952! Boys camp is July 20-26, girls camp is July 27-August 2nd. We would love to see two local students go, so please pass the word around and let us know if anyone is interested. The camp teaches conservation and outdoor skills. They also have many activities like hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing and birding.
